Two years old today!

I gave my baby boy an extra big hug last night, as I put him down for his last night of sleep as a one-year old. A little dramatic I know, but it was a very emotional moment for me. Today, my boy is two years-old, no longer a baby, now fully in the toddler stage.

I shared my sentiments with Big Bro last night, saying how it was crazy that it was Lil Bro's last night as a "boddler" (big bro's nickname for the stage between baby & toddler). Without even missing a beat, Big Bro himself contemplated how when Lil Bro is in college, he'll already be in work! Talk about fast forwarding on the stages of life. I promptly broke into tears, thinking ahead that far to my boys being all grown up.

Thank you Lord, for our boys, for entrusting us with your Gifts. Please fill Lil Bro with your Love and Grace, especially on his birthday today.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Post script:
Stages of life, according to Big Bro
newborn (first born, still with umbil. cord)
baby (after cord falls off)
boddler (walking stage, still using a bottle)
toddler (two and old usually)
gymboree
pre-school
kindergarten
elem school
high school
college
work
i don't think he has the word "retirement" yet in this sequence, probably the great-grandpa stage is after the work stage.
Lil'bro Quiet Time
lil'bro had been quietly playing in the living room when he came into the kitchen get me. He dragged me into Big Bro's room, pointed to the top of his armoire and said "hat". At the top of the armoire was the red fire hat he wanted. With Big Bro's permission, lil'bro got his hat and with hat on head, he walked down the hall, back to the living room. Things being too quiet, this is what I saw when I joined him...
Lounging on a Sunday Afternoon!
Lil Bro at 23 months.. I wanted to compile his vocabulary as he approaches two years old. I was surprised at the number of words once I start to make this list. I caveat that we may be the only ones that understand some of these words, though he is able to communicate quite well. As with most kids, the words he understands is far longer than what he can verbalize.
Most frequent words include:
daddy
mommy
bobo (big bro)
baby
nanny
pop pop
poppy
bottle
yum
hi
bye
ice
cat
dog
bird
boy
guy
duck
socks
that
this
milk
more
beef
nana (banana)
bar (multi grain bar)
bites (entemanns little bites)
mine
ook (book)
done
truck
Long Sleeves
We have bit of a struggle every year in helping Big Bro make a transition from long sleeve shirts to short sleeves. As the weather starts to get warm here, the battle is rearing its head. At Target the other night, we showed Big Bro some of the very cool character short sleeve shirts; Mario, Star Wars, Wimpy Kid. Normally not our thing at all, but willing to use the big bribes to ply him into short sleeves.
He was very excited to see the shirts and very disappointed to see they didn't have long sleeve versions. Conversation was something like this:
Me: "what a cool shirt"
Big Bro: "do they have it in long sleeve?"
Me: "No, but we should try this"
Big Bro: "Nah, I only wear long sleeves. That's just the kind of guy I am"
Overheard from the backseat..
Big Bro, two nights ago during a semi-long drive home:
"Isn't it unusual that fish can't breath when they are outside of water. I wonder why they can't just use their mouth to breathe air and get pure oxygen"
thoughtful silence for a moment
To which he follows "And the answer is: that's just the way God made it".
