2007 thus far...

We've been a bit absent on this blog over the last few weeks. It wasn't intentional, more of a post-holiday break I suppose. 2007 has been a good year thus far, some quick updates:

- Both Big Daddy and I have stuck to our New Year's commitment to eat heathier. We're not formal WW members, but are counting points. BD's metabolism is insane, he's down quite a bit in a short timeframe. My progress has been slower, but I crossed under a 10-lb marker on the scale today (eg 130, 140, 150, etc). I won't say which one, but it made me very happy! I was up at 5:00 am for Power Yoga this morning, so its awesome to feel some progress after almost throwing my back out trying to hold wheel pose for an inhumane amount of time.

- John is picking up map skills. His sense of direction and geography may have exceeded mine already! He can identify New York, Florida, California and Washington on a map. We need to start working on the trickier middle America states.

- John's phonic skills continue to expand in leaps and bounds. He loves his beginner readers books and is beginning to deduce words both on phonetics and sight recognition.

- Snow finally hit the Northeast this past week. It has been cold !!

- After a year of exploring different churches in our area, we've registered at a parish about 30 minutes from us. We like two of the priests there very much and it is a warm family-welcoming community. We weren't feeling inspired / challenged / community-minded at the few parishes closer to us. I feel happy about being a formal member somewhere (can you believe we were actually glad to receive our offering envelopes in the mail! there's a catholic sense of community), but I do wish that we were able to make that connection closer to our home. We may continue to rethink this decision over the years and as John reaches school age. In the meantime, the other benefit is that the farther parish to near our closest Starbucks, convenient for post-Mass breakfast.

- No progress updates on potty-training.

That's all for now. My warmest wishes to all for a blessed New Year thus far!
