D is for Daddy

I'm a bit late in posting this, but I would like to offer a blessed Father's Day to all -- most especially my sweet husband. I'm amazed at the great dad he is, day in and day out, to our little boy.

We hosted my husband's family to a big dinner to celebrate Father's Day. At the end of the day, after the last dishes were put away and the final crumbs swept up, Big Daddy told me it was his best Father's Day ever. I gently reminded him it was only his THIRD father's Day ever!!! As we laughed, I can only hope that it is just one of many great Father's Days to come.

Peanut Butter

Peanut, peanut butter....

Do you know that song? We sing it from time to time with John, how you crush, then spread, then eat the PB.

I happen to love anything that contains yummy PB. I try to restrain, but an occasional PB&J, or some ice cream with Reese's, etc, etc. I think John inherited my love of peanut butter, but perhaps it's just inherit to toddler-kind.

We've taken to saying that when Big Daddy, John and I are in a group hug, that we are bread and John is the peanut butter. At night, we all gather on the big bed (our bed) for prayers and snuggles before John goes to his crib. I'll lay on my side of the bed and say "Mommy's Bread". Big Daddy lays on his side and says "Daddy's Bread". I'll declare John to be peanut butter and he climbs right up between us to make a sandwich. Of course, he then wants to be "bread" because that's what Mommy and Daddy are.

So, I end up as Jelly.

First you take the peanuts and you crush them, you crush them

Time goes by...

This afternoon Mothra finally left us. She was residing at the far edge of the deck. As I was mentioning in the comments in the last post, she will only live for a couple days. She has no mouth to eat with. She is out looking for love... Or sex I suppose!

Speaking of the birds and bees, it is our 16 year dating anniversary. Tomorrow is our 5 year wedding anniversary. At this point we have spent over half of our lives together. It is hard to bring to mind the greatest memories of my life and not see Counting Blessings by my side. Harder still is to envision a future without her there. I could have never imagined the place our love is today in our first summer of dating; even on the day we were married. The in-laws will be watching the little one. Hot rock massage reservations are made. Dinner as well, at a place we used to frequent when we were dating. We will spend the night at the place we stayed on our wedding night. This time we're hoping to get to use the pool! Many of my friends used to ask me how it felt to be together for so long. I’d say it feels like it’s been forever, but forever wasn’t a long time. It feels like it has always been this way and this was the way it was meant to be. I look back and thank God for all our memories together. I look forward to the future and await what is in store for us and our family.

Plagues? bugs!

Oh -wait- we live in the country now!

Leading up to 06/06/06 I was quitely laughing to myself about the impending doom stories and the new Omen release. I just realized we made it past and it seems there's not much to report; or at least I thought.

The wife and I saw some huge bugs today. I didn't take a picture of it but I evicted a 2" spider off the back deck today! It's body was about 3/4" long and it wasn't happy when I served notice!

The past couple weeks I've noticed an incredible about amount of catepillars around the house and local park. (I'll have to get some pics of those.) In 16 yrs of being together (5 yrs of marriage), it was news to me today that the wifey won't touch them! Lil'daddy and I like to return them to yummy tree leaves and pet the furry ones.

This guy was on our sliding glass door and scared the bejebees out of the wife! I was fascinated but I don't think she was amused. It got served as well!

I don't have a picture that does scale well but mothra was 3 or 4 inches long with about a 5 inch wing span.

DDR Extreme

I forgot to put the memory card back in the camera, so this is the only video I got. He was so cute on that thing and at one point you would've thought it was on and he knew what he was doing! There was no one else using it for him to see what he was supposed to do - flashing lights and music is all the necessary instruction for a 2yo I guess! :)

Reflections on milestones

I feel quite a bit guilty that I haven't kept up with the baby book. I had kept weekly updates of John's progress for this first three months or so, then I starting jotting things on the calendar until about a year or so and I've trailed off since then. As my little boy enters his third year of life, I thought I'd take a moment to reflect on some of his milestones at this point.

Random thoughts that I can look back on - maybe I'll be good enough to print this post for his baby book!

John at 2 years old, my sweet little boy:

Approximately 25 lbs, wears a size 5 shoe

Knows all of his ABC's, can visually name many of the letters and supply words that start with those letters

Knows his right hand from his left most of the time.

Starting potty training, with some great early success!

Loves Little Bear on Noggin

Favorite foods are blueberries, steak, pears and Teddy Grahams

Favorite song is Old McDonald (the yi-yo song as it called, for the e-i-e-i-o)

Has started to tell us stories, the greatest little tales of imagination and creativity. A recent one was how our cat was going to ride his motorcycle to the store to get bread to make Mommy a sandwich.

Speaks in 5-6 word sentences, verbalizes just about everything

Knows most colors

Loves to draw and color, especially with Mommy's pen if one is found!

Loves to stack books, taking them off the shelf one by one and piling them up

Loves to snuggle/huggle, laugh, jump in puddles and sing

My sweet little guy. He continues to astound me with his smile, his stories, his capacity to love and bring joy. My sweet little boy, my heart, my love.

Disclaimer that these thoughts are all written after a terrible-twos tantrum day and a hard time going to sleep. I'm happy and grateful and reflective only now as the house is quiet!

Sleep update

And a happy one at that! Since my last post, John's sleep patterns are much, MUCH better. He's going to bed a bit later, but when I lay him in his crib, he fluffs up his pillow, lets out a big sigh and closes his eyes. Thank you God !
