"No John go to bed"
John turns two in a week. Is this when the "terrible twos" start?
The last two weeks have been a huge step backwards with John's sleep habits. We're phasing out bottles, leaving only one at bedtime. No more bottle before nap. I think John is protesting -- ie.. no bottle, no nap !! He cries for much longer than usual before finally going down for his nap. And bedtime? He cried for over 60 minutes the other night !!! I went in to check on him, he was screaming, pleading, begging to get out of his crib. He wanted to go to the couch, to mommy & daddy's bed, anywhere but his crib.
He continued to wail. I held him briefly to calm him down. Our conversation went like this:
John: No John go to bed.
Me: Yes John, it'd bedtime. Mommy is going to count to ten and then you go back in your bed.
John: thinking, trying to find a way out of the pending situation....
John: No John, go to bed * lightbulb* John, go to CHURCH!
He then took my face in his hands and looked at me very seriously --
John: John go church. John PRAY.
I can only imagine what he wanted to pray for. I guess he could think of better bargaining chips to try to get out of bed.
I counted to ten, put him back down and listened to him cry for about 10 more minutes...
I hope this gets easier.

Listening to your child cry never gets easier.
You are strong...continue on that path & you will do just fine.
That is really funny about wanting to go to church. Ben does the same thing at bedtime--casting around for whatever he thinks might get him out of it. We were just talking about it tonight, and my dh thinks it's part of the terrible twos. Sigh....
