One Of Three and Counting

Sending my love...

I just read your post... that's a lot to handle! Given what you've mentioned in your post, there's no wonder you’re confused. I wouldn't be surprised if you were very cynical of religion. (Not saying you are but would understand if you were) I hope you don't mind if I comment here.

I tend to think of suffering in several ways. I would not say that God does bad things to us but I would say that he allows bad things to happen. I'm not sure I can explain it well enough, but it would have to do with God giving us choice and free will. We, as individuals and as well as collective group, have the ability to make bad decisions and have bad things happen. The consequence of one bad action by one person has the ability to affect a large group of people. People can make bad decisions and others can suffer because of it (either more or less directly).

No one's perfect and not all of the time. It boggles my mind that the actions of each and every person can then affect such a wide range of people. Imagine a stone dropped in a pond... there would be ripples spreading from the place were the stone landed. Imagine two stones dropped in the pond and their ripples colliding. Imagine the ripples from a rainfall. I imagine seemingly chaotic ripple interference! (Obviously, I'm more cynical of large groups of people than I am of religion!)

There are many ways to experience God's presence and love. One is to realize that we're all in the "pond" together and that when we are there for each other in God's name, God can be present through us. During part of the service where I attend, we present our "gifts" at the altar. We pray that our meager gifts when brought to the altar are blessed and become more than the "raw material" we offered. It is easy to think of the gifts given at the altar as just money or some wafers of bread and a cup of wine. It can and should be more than that. I don't necessarily think much of my words and thoughts written here nor do I presume to think my words have any power within themselves. Right now in my prayer, as well as this weekend during services, I will offer them and by the power of God I hope that you receive some healing love. I send my love and pray it becomes more than a meager offering.

P.S. - Above all things Jesus taught love. In that there is no contradiction. Rules and guidelines may have expanded from this but at the core remains love. It is fine to question and seek understanding while developing a relationship with God. Doesn’t it seem natural to have conversation and spend time with God in order to build a relationship? If it is found appealing, enlist the help of a spiritual director or minister or other clergy to help spark the conversation and/or discuss thoughts. As a warning, shopping around for someone like this with which there is a sufficient level of comfortableness might be in order, but the reward will be worth it.

PPS – Cathy I still read (and listen to the music on) your blog.

"Then and Now" post

Seeing Big Daddy's post below made me think of a picture (not the best picture, but a memorable one none-the-less) taken back in February 2005, when John was a mere 9 months old. He's grown so much from this Feb-05 pic to the one in B.D. post below.

We've each grown so much, over these last 10 months, individually and as a family. I can only pray that we continue to grow in love, in Grace, in and with God.

I love my boys...

Just Another Day Around My Way

Ooooo, la la laaa... - Got that song in my head!

I felt guilty about not posting that often so I thought I leave this quick note...
It was a good day today. Daddy, pop-pop and lil'daddy spent some time this AM at Gander Mountain looking at the stuffed animals and some big boy toys that Daddy can't afford! :)

On the way to the hardware store to get paint, from the back seat, I hear John's first whistle! With lips pursed he was blowing in and out. With all that air going back'nforth he squeaked out a whistle! I looked in the rear view and he had an ear to ear smile!!! I was so excited! I coaxed him on some more and sure enough he managed an encore performance. I wish we could have recorded it somehow.

While still praying and trying to find ways to keep daily life an open prayer, I've not really felt I had the time for any "deep" posts. (they take a while for me to write) I'll leave two pictures that were taken today. The first photo is of lil' daddy's new Old Navy shirt; It's soo soft and warm AND it was like $4! The second photo was taken in Gander Mountain. $1400 for a 50cc Quad seems a bit excessive. Daddy's first bike was a 50cc two-wheeler that came with two "parts-bikes". That's six wheels for like 50 bucks :> Daddy was also 5 or 6 years older than lil' daddy at the time. What possibilities the future holds!

For good days and good times, thanks be to God

Full Steam Ahead!

We HAVE been Busy! My last post was nearly 2 weeks ago. In that time Mommy and I have been doing much planning and check writing! I have been courting a new Home Depot and I think it's getting serious. :) That's enough of a hint from me until we make an official Blog announcement!

What I've created this post to share has not to do with the big changes in our household. The reason, plainly, is just the joy the past few weeks has brung in the form of lil' daddy smiles. Mommy mentioned the counting to Eight and that one blows me away! He is getting quicker at his puzzles (even the new ones) and the nesting & stacking of blocks. He is giving more unsolicited daddy kisses this days.

He has begun to really enjoy those Dr Seuss books we started buying before he was born, and his attention span can often take him through two books. That's with reading and expanding the story describing the pictures. I love reading to him,

When a fox is
in the bottle where
the tweetle beetles battle
with their paddles
in a puddle on a
noodle-eating poodle,
THIS is what they call...

...a tweetle beetle
noodle poodle bottled
paddled muddled duddled
fuddled wuddled
fox in socks, sir!

With the point of a finger and sideways smile, John points, Sir, to the bottled embattled Fox in socks, Sir, and says "FOCKS"!

He points across the room to the 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" animal pictures that are on the top half of our fridge and says grrafff, ssnake, Bay-ar, seali-on, lephard, ee-goo (eagle), Ba-boon, mowse, birrd, munkey, mooos. We are working on the difference between a lion and tiger. (It seems that anything lion-like that is orangey, regardless of spots or stripes, are lions :) He has had super times at his last few Gymboree classes, and in the past couple weeks we've only had a few difficult days. I think 4 more teeth are coming in! These ones are taking their time! In general though, happy baby is making for happy baby daddy!

Oh, and speaking of things bought before john was born that he is just now using...
He finally fits in those Baby Gap boots with the red laces! Such a big boy our lil' daddy is becoming!

My little boy can count!

At sixteen months >>> He'll line up his like-objects (blocks, crackers, etc) and count them.. One, Two, Three, Four, FIVE, SIX, SEVEN, EIGHT !!!!! See what Big Daddy teaches him, I'm so proud.

++++++++

I noticed that we haven't blogged in about a week, which is clearly centuries in the blog world. Part of it has been a busy schedule on our part -- we're in the midst of some big changes in the OneofThreeandCounting household (no, not another little one).... More on that shortly -- until then, we're saying hi and blessings to all !

Six people, four cups of tea and one picture....

Oh, and one tasty bananna cream pie!

This past Saturday was a great leisurely break for us -- we all piled in the car, drove a few hours and were warmly welcomed at the home of friends: Mater, Pater and Linnaea.

This was our first chance to meet Linnaea, a darling, bright-eyed, inquisitive 15 week old. We've been watching Linnaea grow from afar, via her blog, and it was a treat to meet her. For myself, it was a treat to hold such a little baby again, as my little baby is all-too-quickly becoming (or indeed is) a little boy.

Mater offered us a tasty, apple spice tea. We shared tea and parenting stories, all the while, trying to keep our son from obsconding their many pets -- all-in-all, a joyous afternoon was had by all! (oh yes, and there was a little bit about delicious nutbrown ale, quiches and pie). The day itself was cold, raining and damp, but nothing that could diminish the joy of parents and their little ones (and beer, did we mention beer? no, the little ones did not have beer..)

So there you have it -- six people, four cups of tea and now for a picture, Vito's comment was that Mater and I looked like the happiest moms ever:

Our thanks to Mater & Pater for having us as their guests. We pray that God's gentle hand continues to guide and protect sweet Linnaea.

Old Time Rock'n'Roll

Note to self:

Either...
1. Don't pledge/behold hardwood floors or,
2. don't walk to quickly after using pledge/behold on said floor in socks.

Just take those old record off the shelf...
I sit and listen to them by myself.
Today's music ain't got the same soul...
I like that ol' time Rock 'n' Roll! -Bob Seger

To continue the Litany -- Communion of the Saints

I am a few days late in one case and a bit earlier in the second (which is a shock, I'm never early for anything these days!). I would be remiss to reflect on the great Saints of our Church and not offer tribute to St. Therese of Lisieux and St. Francis of Assisi -- to whom our Church has dedicately feast days on October 1st and October 5th, respectively.

There are no words that I could write or offer that would rightly pay homage to these Saints. Both St. Therese and St. Francis have been a great source of inspiration to me, in their incredible desire to give so fully, to honor and to love Jesus. A few years ago, I read "Maurice and Therese : The Story of a Love", by Bishop Patrick Ahearn - after reading St. Therese' own autobiography. What a beautiful witness to St. Therese's humanity , to the way she shared her love for Jesus with others (and in sharing it with others, she was giving Love and Glory back to Jesus!), all via a collection of letters that she shared with her friend Maurice, a missionary. Again, my words do not do any justice, so I humbly offer my prayer asking St. Therese and St. Francis that I may learn from their example to offer myself fully to God and to my family, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

St. Therese ~~ Thoughts and Words about Love of God:
I know of one means only by which to attain to perfection: LOVE. Let us love, since our heart is made for nothing else. Sometimes I seek another word to express Love, but in this land of exile the word which begins and ends (St. Augustine) is quite incapable of rendering the vibrations of the soul; we must then adhere to this simple and only word: TO LOVE.

But on whom shall our poor heart lavish its love? Who shall be found that is great enough to be the recipient of its treasures? Will a human being know how to comprehend them, and above all will he be able to repay? There exists but one Being capable of comprehending love; it is Jesus; He alone can give us back infinitely more than we shall ever give to him.

Which Saint are You?

Nothing like a little quiz to liven up a Monday!

I spotted this on Dylan's Lectionary Blog, in her Grace Notes section. My disclaimer that I didn't read any further into the quiz site, its origins, other quizzes, etc....

Which Saint are You?

Interesting results, but you know what, they ring a bit true!! I'll have to read up on Julian of Norwich now...

My results:
Julian
You are Julian of Norwich! It's all about God, to you. You're convinced that the world has a
happy ending. Everyone else is convinced that you're a closet hippie, but you love them
anyway.

Speaking of the Communion on Saints ~~~ Matt Maher's "Litany" is a beautiful rendition...

~~ Blessings all around ~~
